Biography

Masayoshi Kosugi

He began his career with the Haseko Group, where he was involved in a broad range of real estate and construction-related activities, including architectural design, real estate development, construction management, land utilization planning, property sales, and building and property management.
During his time with the Haseko Group, he also gained experience in real estate appraisal through an assignment with the Real Estate Department of Mitsui Trust Bank, now Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank.

In 1999, he joined ORIX Corporation, where he helped establish its loan servicing business. He was primarily engaged in investments in non-performing loans held by major Japanese banks, working in collaboration with international investment funds. Through these activities, he gained extensive experience in asset management, loan servicing, securitization, structured finance, and other financial techniques that were still relatively new to the Japanese market at the time.

He later joined the Japan-based joint venture between Moore Capital and SVP Global, a major U.S. alternative investment firm. There, he specialized in investments involving non-performing loans, real estate, and corporate restructuring opportunities in Japan.
Through investments totaling several hundred billion yen, he contributed to the resolution of non-performing loan portfolios that had accumulated in Japan’s banking sector following the financial difficulties of the late 1990s.
Following the dissolution of the joint venture, he continued his career with SVP Global, focusing primarily on real estate investment activities.

In 2007, he was appointed Representative Director of an independent Japanese asset management company and also served as the representative of its debt collection subsidiary.
In these roles, he was responsible for asset management, credit risk management, and debt collection relating to investment properties held by major investment funds. His experience covered a wide range of asset classes, including office buildings, condominiums, healthcare facilities, logistics facilities, and commercial properties.
In August 2011, he established Cedar Crest Japan Co., Ltd. using capital from an opportunity investment fund.
The company was founded with the aim of supporting regional revitalization, corporate restructuring, social welfare-related businesses, and post-disaster reconstruction, while providing comprehensive consulting and management services.
